Although the mineralogical database is not as extensive as the gemological, it includes most of the important mineralogical information. We will have some mineralogical testing procedures in the program, including chemical and blowpipe analysis, for those interested in the technical lost art.

The Adamas Advantage Gem Identification Quiz Kit© For Windows utilizes a patent pending process to generate Millions and Millions of different true/false and/or multiple choice questions pertaining to physical and optic al properties of gems and minerals as well as gemological and mineralogical identification concepts. The student selects the level of question difficulty, the subset of the database used (for example, the user can limit the questioning to only the GIA A Chart materials), the properties or concepts desired to be tested (for example, test your knowledge of crystal systems), and the number of questions in the test series. Answers are immediate and give page cross references to important gemological and mineralogical texts for further study. If you are studying for your GIA Gem Identification course or pursuing CGA or FGA, this package will make studying fun and less boring, besides improving your knowledge base by repetitive questioning.

The Adamas Advantage Color Converter Kit© performs approximate colormetric conversions from GemDialogue™, GIA ColorMaster®, and GIA GemSet® notations to CIE and Unsell® notation. The software also converts overlaid GemDialogue™ colors to CIE, GIA ColorMaster®, and GIA GemSet® notations using most common bulb types or any blackbody source as an illuminant.
GemDialogue™ conversions for most combinations (Primary, Overlay and Mask) are computed from spectrophotomic transmission data and 40 point numerical integration for either the CIE 2 degree or CIE 10 degree observer, with conversions from any Blackbody source and most incandescent and fluorescent source spectra to universal CIE. Input and correction for angle of source incidence is provided. CIE output is provided in CIE x,y,Y and L*a*b* color frames.
If computed GemDialogue™ color is within the range of the GIA ColorMaster®, the ColorMaster® coordinate (eg A557836) is computed based on the last available ColorMaster® filter set data.
The approximate hue, tone and saturation coordinate (eg vB 5/5) is computed based on Wyszecki(1963) color difference formulation found in "Color Science" by Wyszecki & Stiles compared with tabulated ColorMaster®/GemSet® color space positions (ColorMaster® PIE charts). There had been three revisions to the GIA ColorMaster® filter Set since its first release. If ColorMaster® owners did not have their machine updated, then the ColorMaster® notation will be inconsistent with current GIA color space (hue, tone, saturation).
Conversion to approximate Munsell® color space (Hue, Value, Chroma) is accomplished by a unique algorithm developed by the author, based on a L*a*b* to Munsell® system graph published by Minolta, subject to some range limitations because of available data.
Any ColorMaster® coordinate input (eg A334466) is converted to both CIE(x,y,Y) and CIE L*a*b* coordinates as well as closest GemSet® (H/T/S) and Munsell® (H,V.C) notation, based on algorithms described above.
Any GIA GemSet® notation (H/T/S) is converted to GIA Colormaster® notation if the color is within the GIA ColorMaster® dynamic range. As we know, the ColorMaster® had some limitations in the highly saturated hues.
Any CIE (x,y,Y) or L*a*b* coordinate is converted to GIA ColorMaster® notation based on reverse transformations developed by the author, and forward transformations published by GIA. The nearest GemSet® (H/T/S) and Munsell® notation (H/V/C) is computed as above.
